Ben Lapierre is an artist, educator and doctoral candidate based in Tiohtià:ke (Montréal). His photographic work is grounded in themes of the quotidian, mundanity and nostalgia. With an interest in the archive, Ben’s work probes at the concept of duration, provoking questions of how his photos will endure, not just as an artefact of the present, but as a prompt for future storytelling. Rather than focusing on formal qualities, Ben’s work is sensitive to the material realities it represents. His current, SSHRC-funded research-creation project draws from local, colonial and media histories towards an unsettling of the Canadian cabin. Ben’s work has been featured internationally at various exhibitions and conferences.
